Enabling Sales Order Reservation & Pick Slip Generation with Oracle APEX

Simplifying Fulfilment by Connecting Demand and Inventory with Real-Time Visibility

Fulfilment by Connecting Demand and Inventory

Challenges

A global pharmaceutical enterprise collaborated with InspireXT to design a tailored solution for improving sales order allocation and pick slip generation. Built using Oracle APEX, the new application enabled users to reserve on-hand finished goods against sales order lines with precision, ensuring inventory was properly aligned to fulfilment needs.

Despite leveraging Oracle SCM Cloud, the client encountered significant roadblocks in efficiently managing order fulfilment and inventory allocation:

  • No Centralised Interface for Reservations: The standard Oracle UI lacked a user-friendly interface for creating and managing reservations tied to sales order lines and available stock.
  • Cumbersome Navigation for Simple Tasks: Users were forced to navigate through multiple screens and clicks just to review stock availability or generate pick slips—leading to delays and operational fatigue.

These limitations made it difficult to ensure inventory was optimally reserved and allocated, creating inefficiencies in demand-supply alignment.

Solution

Oracle APEX-Powered Reservation & Allocation App

To solve this, InspireXT developed a custom Oracle APEX application that allowed users to view and act on real-time data from Oracle SCM Cloud, improving control over inventory allocation and order fulfilment.

Key capabilities included:

  • Real-Time Sales Order Line & Inventory View: A dashboard displaying sales order line demand alongside available finished goods, enabling instant reservation decisions.
  • Quick Pick Slip Generation: Users could trigger pick slip processes from the same interface without multiple navigations.
  • Search & Filter Functionality: Users could easily filter orders by item or organisation for faster access and focused actions.
  • Role-Based Access & Oracle SSO: Ensured secure and personalised user experiences based on access levels and roles.

Results

  • Enabled real-time search of finished goods linked to sales orders in under 2 minutes, which was previously unavailable.
  • Reduced user effort per pick release, cutting down clicks from 10–15 to just 3–5, significantly improving task efficiency.
  • Minimised training time from 2–3 days to just 1 day, thanks to an intuitive and streamlined design.
  • Boosted user satisfaction, especially among fulfilment and operations teams, who now had a simplified, actionable interface to perform daily tasks.
