What is Oracle Redwood
It has been a few years since Oracle provided a configurable platform to change the look and feel of the applications and the appearance of the work area. The obvious questions that come to mind are – Is it only limited to look-and-feel, colour, and fonts? Is it one other marketing initiative? Certainly not. As per Oracle, it is the collective reinvention of how users interact with Oracle applications and consume information. The entire structure of both the front-end and back-end has been redesigned and reengineered from scratch. This overhaul has led to enhanced performance and improved compatibility with cloud technologies. This means the system is now more efficient and better suited for cloud-based operations.
The new Redwood resources (UX components, templates, services for SCM, Manufacturing, Finances, etc.) have been added to the Oracle Applications Platform. Oracle customers can further extend and personalise their Oracle Fusion Applications for specific use cases that are important to their business.
Traditional page generation products like JDeveloper, ADF Faces, and Apex require you to create a page with numerous configurable parameters, design it, deploy it, and then cheque if it meets user requirements. If further modifications are needed, the process is repeated. However, Redwood offers an integrated platform with a Visual Builder Designer Studio. All components here are responsive both at runtime and design time, meaning what you see during the design phase is exactly what you get during runtime. This WYSWYG feature is a significant advantage for both developers and users. You can make adjustments such as resolution, orientation, page size, and screen size (mobile-friendly) to see the results in real time. This immediate feedback makes the design process more efficient and user-friendly.

The Express mode in Visual Builder Studio allows for the creation of business rules that can determine the necessity and editability of fields and regions on a page. These rules can also show or hide fields and regions based on specific criteria. This level of customisation provides a tailored user experience, making it more efficient and user-friendly. E.g. you can control which actions are visible on the Receipt Deliveries page, or you can set the default date range that’s available on the PAR Counts Overview page. The changes you can make to a page depend on the page you’re modifying.
