About the Client
The client is one of the world’s largest container shipping lines, headquartered in Singapore, and its finance team relies on the group consolidation to report results across the business. It had completed a technical go-live on Oracle Financial Consolidation and Close (FCC, formerly FCCS) on Oracle EPM Cloud, but still needed to retire its legacy Cognos platform and prepare its IT team to support Oracle EPM in house.
InspireXT’s Singapore and South-East Asia Oracle EPM practice ran a five-week Oracle FCCS assessment and discovery to turn that technical go-live into full business adoption. The engagement gave the client an independent view of the gaps across business process, training and configuration, and a defined roadmap for FCC adoption.
Business Challenges
- A technical go-live, not yet a business one: Oracle FCCS was live, but business processes, configuration and support had not yet caught up with how the finance team runs the close.
- Two consolidation platforms running side by side: the legacy Cognos platform still had to be retired before the client could rely on Oracle EPM alone.
- An IT team not yet trained on Oracle EPM: the client’s IT team needed training before it could support Oracle EPM itself.
- A reconciliation decision pending: the client was preparing an internal budget case for Oracle Account Reconciliation and wanted to see it working first.
- No independent baseline: leadership needed an objective view of the Oracle FCCS environment before investing further.
What We Did
- Five-week discovery of the Oracle FCCS environment: InspireXT’s Oracle EPM specialists reviewed configuration, consolidation processes and the support model against how the finance team actually closes the books.
- Gap assessment across three areas: every finding was classified as a business process, training or configuration gap.
- Cognos sunset planning: defined the approach to migrate from Cognos to Oracle EPM and retire the legacy platform.
- IT enablement plan: set out the training the client’s IT team needs to support Oracle EPM in house.
- Oracle Account Reconciliation demonstration: showed finance leaders how reconciliation would run in Oracle EPM, to support their internal budget case.
Value Delivered
- An independent assessment report: an objective view of the gaps in business process, training and configuration, documented in one place.
- A defined roadmap for FCC adoption: prioritised steps to move Oracle FCCS from technical go-live to full business use.
- A clear plan to retire Cognos: a route to stop running two consolidation platforms side by side.
- A foundation for in-house support: the training the IT team needs to support Oracle EPM is now defined.
- An informed reconciliation decision: finance leaders saw Oracle Account Reconciliation working before committing budget.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Oracle FCCS assessment?
An Oracle FCCS assessment is an independent review of a live Oracle Financial Consolidation and Close environment that identifies gaps in business process, training and configuration, and sets out a roadmap to full adoption. InspireXT runs these assessments for finance teams across Singapore and Southeast Asia.
How long does an Oracle FCCS assessment take?
For this Singapore container shipping line, InspireXT completed the Oracle FCCS assessment and discovery in five weeks. It ended with an independent report and a defined roadmap for FCC adoption.
How do you retire Cognos after moving to Oracle EPM?
Retiring Cognos starts with confirming that Oracle Financial Consolidation and Close covers every consolidation and reporting need Cognos served. The team then plans which historical data moves across, and switches Cognos off once the finance team relies on Oracle EPM alone.
What is Oracle Account Reconciliation?
Oracle Account Reconciliation, formerly ARCS, is an Oracle EPM Cloud application that manages and automates balance sheet reconciliations. It runs on the same Oracle EPM platform as Financial Consolidation and Close, so reconciliation and consolidation sit side by side.
Who supports Oracle EPM in Singapore?
InspireXT’s Singapore and APAC Oracle EPM practice assesses, stabilises and supports Oracle FCCS and wider Oracle EPM environments for companies across Southeast Asia, including after go-live.
