Oracle EPM FCCS Optimisation: Stabilising Financial Consolidation for a Southeast Asian Packaging Manufacturer

Oracle EPM FCC Optimisation for Dynapack (3)

About the Client

The client is a leading rigid packaging and plastics manufacturer in Southeast Asia, operating 30+ production facilities across Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and China with a highly complex financial and organizational footprint. To manage multi-currency statutory reporting, intercompany eliminations, and consolidation across its regional divisions, the enterprise relies on Oracle EPM Financial Consolidation and Close (FCC / FCCS).

While the platform is central to their financial operations, the CFO and IT leadership needed to improve its everyday usability, consolidation run-times, and close reliability without sacrificing the historical data, process continuity, and investment already built into the system.

Business Challenges

The client’s FCC environment had grown overly complex, leading to configurations that no longer aligned with their fundamental consolidation requirements. Because reverting to manual processes was not a viable option, the business needed to address several critical hurdles within the live system:

  • Configuration Misalignment: The existing system architecture was not optimized for core reporting, making the platform increasingly difficult to navigate, maintain, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Risk to Live Operations: The organization needed a structured mechanism to stabilize the application and resolve priority defects without disrupting ongoing financial reporting cycles.
  • Asset Preservation: A complete overhaul was premature; the business required a pragmatic method to fix the immediate friction points while protecting the historical data and capital investment already committed to the platform.
  • Multi-Currency & Intercompany Bottlenecks: Consolidating manufacturing subsidiaries across multiple ASEAN currencies (IDR, SGD, MYR, THB, VND, and USD) created intercompany elimination delays and extended month-end close cycles.
  • Dense/Sparse Dimension & Calculation Rule Drag: The client’s FCC environment had grown overly complex following regional expansion, leading to custom calculation scripts, member formulas, and dense/sparse dimension configurations that slowed batch consolidation performance.
  • Avoiding a Costly Reimplementation Freeze: Both Finance and IT needed immediate close-cycle stability in their live production environment without locking the business into a 9-to-12-month, high-capex FCCS reimplementation.

What We Did

  • In-Place Architectural Diagnostics & Rule Auditing: Led by InspireXT’s Singapore & APAC Oracle EPM practice, our certified architects executed a deep-dive diagnostic of the live Oracle EPM FCCS environment—mapping custom calculation scripts, member formulas, and data-storage properties without disrupting active manufacturing close cycles.
  • Calculation Script & Batch Refactoring: Stripped out redundant calculation passes and optimized member logic across heavy consolidation rules, slashing batch job run-times and eliminating system lockups during peak month-end close windows.
  • Dense/Sparse Dimension & Metadata Hygiene: Restructured hierarchy roll-ups and dimension properties across Entity, Account, and Custom dimensions to align with Oracle EPM best practices while preserving 100% historical statutory comparatives.
  • Multi-Currency & Intercompany Workflow Streamlining: Harmonized trial-balance ingestion and intercompany elimination workflows across multi-subsidiary ASEAN operations (spanning IDR, SGD, MYR, THB, and USD), removing manual finance workarounds.
  • Pragmatic Roadmap Governance for SFRS(I) 18 / IFRS 18: Established a clean, high-performance architectural baseline and governance framework, equipping Finance and IT leadership with full operational stability and clear optionality for future statutory reporting upgrades.

Value Delivered

  • Guaranteed Close Cycle Predictability: Stabilized the core Oracle EPM FCCS consolidation engine across all multi-plant Southeast Asian entities, ensuring month-end, quarter-end, and statutory close cycles execute predictably on schedule.
  • Eliminated Costly Reimplementation Disruption: Delivered immediate operational relief and performance gains in-place, protecting capital expenditure and avoiding an expensive, disruptive 9-to-12-month full system reimplementation.
  • Mitigated IT & Finance Operational Friction: Bridged the communication gap between Finance users (managing statutory close calendars) and IT teams (maintaining Oracle application health) through a unified operational support model.
  • Seamless Bridge to Proactive Oracle AMS: Positioned the optimized EPM application for continuous, proactive Application Managed Services (AMS)—covering ongoing rule maintenance, metadata governance, and automated quarterly Oracle Critical Patch Update (CPU) regression testing.
  • Future-Proofed for Regional Compliance: Prepared the EPM metadata structure to seamlessly handle upcoming regulatory reporting changes (including SFRS(I) 18 / IFRS 18 mandates) across Singapore, Indonesia, and the broader ASEAN region.
