Connecting Procurement, Inventory, and Supply Planning on Oracle Cloud

Connecting Procurement, Inventory, and Supply Planning on Oracle Cloud

About the Client

Ocado Group is a UK based online retail and technology group managing a complex supply chain across direct and indirect procurement, a large supplier base, and fulfilment infrastructure that requires precise inventory visibility at scale.

Business Challenges

  • No reliable supply picture: Planning teams worked from fragmented data that did not reconcile across systems. Confident demand and supply decisions were difficult to make.

  • Procurement split across two processes: Direct and indirect procurement ran separately with inconsistent approvals and limited spend visibility across either.

  • Inventory not visible in real time: Stock positions relied on periodic updates rather than live data, creating gaps between system records and the physical floor.

  • Floor operations disconnected from the core: Warehouse teams logged transactions separately and reconciled later, adding effort and introducing error.

  • Integration that created more problems than it solved: Connecting planning, procurement, and inventory required manual effort or brittle point-to-point links that broke when anything changed.

What We Did

  • Advisory and design first: Mapped Ocado’s current-state supply chain processes and agreed on a target operating model before any configuration began.

  • Implemented Oracle Cloud Supply Planning: Gave Ocado’s planning teams a single data-driven view of demand and supply, replacing cycles that previously relied on manual data assembly.

  • Built Oracle Procurement across direct and indirect: Standardized approval structures, supplier management, and spend visibility across both categories in one place.

  • Deployed Oracle Inventory Management: Centralized stock visibility across all Ocado locations in real time, replacing disconnected periodic tracking.

  • Enabled Oracle Mobile Inventory: Connected warehouse floor transactions to the core system at the point of activity, removing the offline lag entirely.

  • Delivered integration across the platform: Built the integration layer connecting Oracle Cloud modules to each other and Ocado’s wider environment, replacing manual handoffs with clean data flow.

Value Delivered

  • A single view of the supply chain, end to end: With supply planning, procurement, inventory, and warehouse operations connected on one platform, Ocado now has a consistent, real-time picture across the entire chain. Decisions that previously required assembling data from multiple places are now made from one source.

  • Procurement under control across both categories: Direct and indirect procurement running on the same approval structures and spend visibility means the business operates to one standard rather than two parallel ones. Supplier management and compliance are no longer a split effort.

  • Inventory that reflects reality: Real-time stock visibility across locations, with floor transactions captured at the point of activity through Mobile Inventory, means the system record and the physical floor are no longer two different things. Everything downstream that depends on inventory accuracy benefits.

  • An integration layer that supports what comes next: Replacing point-to-point connections with a clean integration layer means the platform can absorb new requirements, additional modules, or future changes without rebuilding from scratch each time.
